🏖️ Jersey Shore Throwback: Rumson’s lost Starvation Island is where some families spent their summers in 13 small bungalows along the Navesink River, without electricity or running water. The island could be reached only by boat or, at low tide, by walking across the riverbed from the end of Navesink Avenue. The summer community disappeared after a fire destroyed the bungalows in 1973.
