🏖️ Jersey Shore Throwback: During the summer of 1896, two Atlantic Highlands residents, George E. Harbo and Frank Samuelson, departed in a specially made rowboat and headed for Le Havre, France, on an ocean journey that would last 55 days and cover 3200 miles. They were attempting to win $10,000 by getting from New York to Le Havre using only oars.

It’s National Spumoni Day. A Chicago Tribune article in 1979 said a "genuine spumoni" recipe was brought to the U.S. from Nola, Italy, in 1905. Salvatore Lezza started a bakery in Chicago along with his wife, Lucia. Their traditional recipe called for three layers of semifreddo - an almond layer, semisweet chocolate, and stracciatella, which is a type of gelato with irregular bits of chocolate.
