Seven Monmouth County high schools made New Jersey’s public-school top 50 in Niche’s 2027 rankings, but the local results reach well beyond that list. High Technology earned national recognition for STEM and college preparation, Ranney led the county’s private high schools, and Red Bank Catholic placed among the country’s top 100 high schools for athletes. Niche’s annual rankings compare schools nationally, statewide, and locally, with separate lists for school types and areas of strength.

The rankings combine education data with student and parent feedback. For public high schools, academics account for 60% of the score, followed by culture and diversity at 12.5%, teachers and overall experience surveys at 10% each, and clubs, resources, and sports at 2.5% each. Private schools use a different formula that considers college enrollment and destinations, student-teacher ratios, accreditation, school culture, family feedback, and financial resources.

New Jersey schools earned several prominent national placements: The Lawrenceville School ranks fourth among private high schools, while the Academy for Mathematics, Science and Engineering in Rockaway places second for STEM. Monmouth’s results include two of New Jersey’s top 10 public high schools and seven of its top 50. High Technology leads the county at No. 54 among public high schools nationwide.
