🏖️ Jersey Shore Throwback: This week in 1916, three people were attacked by a shark in Matawan Creek, with two dying from their injuries. These attacks followed previous and unprecedented shark attacks off of Spring Lake beach, and Beach Haven, in Ocean County. The Matawan incident took place 11 miles inland, in a freshwater creek, where sharks are rarely seen.

Just six days after capturing the John Deere Classic with his younger brother, Patrick, filling in as his caddie, Little Silver native and Christian Brothers Academy graduate Chris Gotterup was back in Scotland this past weekend to defend his 2025 Genesis Scottish Open championship, finishing tied for 11th in a strong field. The victory last year helped launch the 26-year-old into golf's elite, with the tournament serving as the final stop before next week's Open Championship in England. Patrick joined Chris while regular caddie Brady Stockton awaited the birth of his first child.

The victory at the John Deere Classic marked Gotterup's fourth PGA Tour title and capped another memorable week in an already remarkable season. His final-round 62 secured the win and moved him to No. 7 in the Official World Golf Ranking entering the Scottish Open. Take a look at one of Gotterup's best shots from this week's Scottish Open.

Gotterup's breakthrough began in 2024 when he earned his first PGA Tour victory at the Myrtle Beach Classic. One year later, he stunned the golf world by winning the Genesis Scottish Open, defeating Rory McIlroy and Marco Penge by two strokes. He followed that performance with a tie for third in his Open Championship debut, proving he could compete with the best players in the game.

After graduating from CBA, Gotterup began his collegiate career at Rutgers University before transferring to the University of Oklahoma. In 2022, he swept college golf's highest individual honors, winning both the Jack Nicklaus Award and the Haskins Award as the nation's top collegiate golfer. Before turning professional, he also won the 2019 New Jersey State Open as an amateur.

With this year’s Scottish Open in the history books, Gotterup now turns his attention to The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in England, where he'll look to continue one of the hottest stretches of his professional career.
