🏖️ Monmouth County History: On Oct. 5, 1946, Eleanor Roosevelt praised the county’s social services in her My Day column, crediting Lincroft reformer Geraldine Thompson’s leadership. Thompson helped build a network of public-health and welfare assistance that became the Visiting Nurse Association Health Group.

365> Deal Park: Residents filed a petition to leave Ocean Township and join Deal. The Planning Board has 45 days to draft an impact report, and Deal’s mayor said there are no plans to annex despite the request. (More)

365> Belmar: The Pat Magovern Shillelagh 5K was postponed Saturday after a police dog alerted to a vehicle during a security sweep. Police found no immediate threat. The race will now combine with the Lake Como Day 5K on Saturday, Oct. 10. (More)

365> Spring Lake: The Borough Council voted 3-2 to accept a Verizon settlement allowing cellular equipment inside cupolas on two boardwalk pavilions. The agreement replaces a proposal involving six freestanding poles. (More)

365> Monmouth County presented Oceanic Bridge replacement plans for Rumson, proposing 11-foot lanes, a 14-foot shared-use path, and three Victory Park connection options. Comments are open through Oct. 30. (More)

365> Brielle: A revised municipal-building proposal would preserve Borough Hall and add a separate two-story police annex. The proposal replaces an earlier combined building plan halted by a residents’ petition; Borough Hall renovations would be handled separately. (More)

365> West Long Branch: Monmouth University students returned to the beach after the nor’easter to investigate what happened to its sand crabs. Their initial observations suggest fewer crabs following the storm and shoreline erosion, although the data is still being analyzed. (More)

365> Chef David Viana of restaurants Lita and La Otra in Aberdeen and Judy & Harry’s in Asbury Park, challenged Bobby Flay’s team on Food Network’s The Line. Viana’s team prepared more than 200 plates for 40 diners in 90 minutes, finishing four points behind Flay’s team. (More)

365> Turning Point restaurants raised more than $24,000 for LADACIN Network. All customer donations went to the nonprofit’s educational, therapeutic, residential, and support services for people with physical and developmental disabilities in Monmouth and Ocean counties. (More)

365> Serpico's Pizzeria & Restaurant, located in Allenhurst, announced its closure on Friday night. The beloved Jersey Shore pizzeria officially closed after serving the local community for over 30 years. (More)

Yesterday’s Only in Monmouth: The Main Street drawbridge connecting Avon and Belmar was built in 1932 and dedicated in October 1933. Before its construction, trolleys crossed the Shark River on the old bridge, with their final run in 1931. The replacement’s two lifting sections opened the waterway to larger boats heading toward Belmar’s marina.
