🏖️ Monmouth History: On September 8, 1934, the luxury cruise liner SS Morro Castle caught fire off the coast of Sea Girt during a heavy storm, resulting in 137 deaths. The burning vessel drifted north and eventually ran aground directly next to the Asbury Park Convention Hall, creating an international news event.
