Good Morning, Monmouth County! ☀️

🏖️ Jersey Throwback: In 1892, Arthur Augustus Zimmerman, who grew up in Freehold, broke the world record for the fastest standing-start half-mile bicycle race in London. Zimmerman also captured the one-mile and five-mile championships in England, cementing his reputation as the world's greatest cyclist. Known as "Zimmy," he would go on to become the first official World Cycling Champion in 1893.

Freehold to Honor Springsteen’s Irish Roots

A copper beech tree will be planted on Thursday, July 2 at 11 am at the Monmouth County Historical Association in Freehold as part of the twin city association of Freehold and Rathangan, a town in the west of County Kildare, Ireland. Bruce Springsteen and his family will be in attendance.

Rathangan is the ancestral home to multiple Freehold residents, including Bruce Springsteen, whose great-great-grandmother, Ann Geraty (on his father's side) moved to Freehold from Rathangan in 1853. In 2024, Freehold Borough formally passed a resolution formally Twinning with Rathangan,

"It's a twinning tree," said Glenn Cashion, first vice president of the Monmouth County Historical Association and cousin of Bruce Springsteen. "It's a copper beech tree and it's the type we planted in Rathangan and the same type of tree that was in front of the house on Randolph Street."
